Amidst the beautiful and unspoilt Ettrick Valley a place of rolling hills winding rivers and pine forests this lovingly restored farmhouse parts of which date from the 14th century is the perfect setting for a relaxing break. Visitors can stroll in the peace and tranquillity of 5 acres of grounds and enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding countryside abundant with wildlife including otters red squirrels ospreys and peregrines. Scotland's longest walk the Southern Upland Way lies close by and some of the best mountain biking in Britain is found only 20 minutes away at Glentress and Innerleithen. A 15 mile drive leads to sailing and fishing on St Mary's Loch – the largest natural loch in the Borders – and beside it lies Maggets reservoir where Hartwoodmyres visitors can enjoy free fishing. Historic towns battle sites and castles abound and Edinburgh's fine architecture great shopping and wealth of cultural delights are only 40 miles away. Horse riding and golf are available nearby. Pub serving food 3 miles shop 5 miles.
